What Happens After You Submit a Share Sale Application?

After you submit a share sale application through Unbroker, the information and supporting documents are reviewed before the shares are sold.

Once the application is reviewed, it can progress to approval and execution. If anything further is required, your dedicated account manager will contact you and explain the next steps.

Once approved, the shares are sold, a contract note is issued, the trade settles and the proceeds are transferred to your nominated bank account.

You’ll receive email updates as your application progresses through each stage of the process.

Here is what happens at each stage.

  1. Your Application Is Received

Once you complete the online application, including the identity verification process, your sale request is recorded in Unbroker’s system.

You should receive confirmation that the application has been submitted.

Your transaction is then assigned to a dedicated account manager who oversees the sale through the review, execution, settlement and payment stages.

  1. Your Information Is Reviewed

Before the shares can be sold, Unbroker reviews the information supplied in the application.

Depending on your circumstances, this may include:

  • the registered shareholder name;
  • the company and number of shares being sold;
  • the SRN and holding details;
  • identity verification for the relevant people;
  • authority to sell the shares;
  • estate, company, trust or SMSF documents;
  • Power of Attorney documents;
  • signatures and consents; and
  • nominated banking details.

The requirements vary depending on how the shares are registered and who is requesting the sale.

  1. We Contact You if Anything Is Required

If the application is missing information or something needs clarification, your account manager will contact you.

The request should explain:

  • what is missing or unclear;
  • why the information is required;
  • what document or correction is needed; and
  • how it can be provided.

Examples may include a clearer identification document, an additional estate document, confirmation of a shareholder name or further evidence that someone has authority to act.

Your application remains under review until the outstanding requirements have been satisfied.

  1. The Application Is Approved

Once the required information, identification and supporting documents have been completed, the application can be approved for sale.

Approval means the file is ready to proceed to execution.

The timing of the sale will depend on the service selected, when the complete application was received, market availability and any specific requirements affecting the holding.

  1. The Shares Are Sold

Once approved, the issuer-sponsored shares are sold on-market.

Unbroker offers Standard Service and Same Day Sale & Settlement.

The applicable timing and service conditions depend on the option selected when completing the application.

After the trade has been executed, the sale price is confirmed.

  1. You Receive a Contract Note

A contract note is issued after the shares have been sold.

The contract note records the key details of the transaction, including:

  • the company and security sold;
  • the number of shares sold;
  • the trade date;
  • the sale price;
  • the value of the transaction;
  • applicable fees;
  • the settlement date; and
  • the net proceeds.

You should retain the contract note for your records and provide it to your accountant or tax adviser where required.

  1. The Trade Settles

Settlement is the stage when the shares and funds are exchanged through the market clearing system.

For Standard Service, settlement generally occurs two business days after the trade date.

Where Same Day Sale & Settlement applies, settlement occurs on the same business day as the sale.

Your contract note will show the settlement date that applies to your transaction.

  1. The Sale Proceeds Are Paid

Unbroker transfers the net sale proceeds to the nominated bank account one business day after settlement.

The amount transferred is the sale proceeds after the applicable brokerage, service fees and any other agreed charges have been deducted.

No upfront payment is required.

Normal bank transfer times may affect when the funds appear in your account after payment has been made.

How Will I Know What Is Happening?

Unbroker provides updates as the transaction progresses.

You will be contacted if further information is required and will receive confirmation once the shares have been sold.

The contract note confirms the details of the trade and settlement date. You will also receive confirmation when the sale proceeds have been transferred.

Your account manager remains available if you have questions about the status of the application or what happens next.
